What to Expect
Your tour will start at approximately 0800 hrs from Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage in Pinnawala where your guide will meet you. He will bring the necessary equipment such as the bicycles, First aid kit for emergencies, bicycle chargers and etc. Ensure to have your breakfast before starting the tour. You will then be biking cross country to Mologoda. Your route will allow you to see many beautiful natural scenes and will be full of adventure.
Mologoda pottery village is a village that had existed for several centuries. According to folklore, Molgoda was created during the Kandyan era over a millennia ago. Throughout the centuries the many generations have made their living from traditional pottery, honing the craft to what it is now. Today approximately 50 families live in the village and practice their craft.
Once you arrive at Mologoda, you will be taken on a guided tour around the village. Then you will meet up with one of the families and get to see how they make pottery in their workshop. They will show you how the traditional pottery wheel is used. You can then try your hand at making your own pottery. You can also help with their work. At noon you will be treated to a delicious homemade lunch.
You will find that the entire wholesome meal comprises of rice, local produce and fish from the river nearby. Dessert is usually buffalo curd with treacle. After a relaxing meal you will have a sometime to to view the pottery items that are available around the village for sale. You can purchase some of it as souvenirs to take back with you. At approximately 1530 hrs you will be leaving the village and cycling back. Your guide will drop you off back at the town of Pinnawala or at your hotel according to your choice.
