Masques Raksha du Sri Lanka
Un masque Raksha est un masque que les Sri Lankais utilisent beaucoup dans les festivals et les danses culturelles. Raksha signifie « démon » et les masques sont apotropaïques, ce qui signifie qu'ils sont destinés à éloigner le mal. Ils sont peints de couleurs vives, avec des yeux bombés et des langues saillantes et ils représentent différents types de démons.
Les masques Raksha constituent le dernier aspect du rituel Kolam et rendent hommage aux Rakshasas, une race qui régnait auparavant sur le Sri Lanka et pouvait prendre 24 formes différentes. Mais seules quelques-unes de ces formes sont effectuées, dont certaines sont :
